The app creates music straight from the heart by recording the user’s pulse by using the light from their phone’s flash to detect the unique colour changes of the skin on their finger, so that when you press your finger down it detects and records your heartbeat.
Despite this being all about a modern and unique way to send someone a message, we wanted to support the age old customs of showing your love, with a more traditional visual aesthetic. The mobile UI was designed by hand, amorously illustrated with pen and paper like a classic love letter rather than straight into software using solid colour, vector shapes and programmatic curves. By moving away from the archetypal flat style to something more “flat-craft” we were able to create something textured and visually rich whilst remaining efficient and scalable.
The unique sound of your actual heartbeat is then set to a romantic score, which you are able to send along with your personal message to a loved one, giving you an extra special something to send this Valentine’s.
we needed to understanding how your heart beats and the range, so we used apps using similar pulse detection methods to see. We tested this out across a user group (20-30 people) of various ages, and lifestyles to make sure we got a good average and the most relevant high and low BPMs to cover in our app.
